Female Sex Workers

PROGRAM GOAL (FSW)

Initially the identification of specific groups and their unique profile and specialized needs, remained as an important gap in the design of prevention interventions for key populations like sex workers in the country as there are no specific targeted interventions. The aims of the Prevention Programmes for Sex Workers are Zero new HIV infection, zero AIDS related deaths and zero discrimination among target population by 2030.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  1. To distribute the prevention package (IEC materials, lubricants and condoms) to reduce the risk associated with high and frequent sex partners, and also increase the knowledge levels within sex workers and their clients.
  2. To sensitize communities on the importance of decriminalization of key populations and to promote a rights-based and non-violent measures against sex workers and their clients.
  3. To provide comprehensive, accessible, sustainable high-quality HIV/TB/STI prevention, treatment, care and support at mapped hotspots.

  PROGRAM GOVERNANCE

  • Program Management
  • Focus on geographically selected districts of implementation and outreach to neighbouring villages and settlements for support services.
  • Scale up of mobile and moonlight HIV counselling and testing at hot spots and safe spaces and referral to ART services.
  • Target audience is FSW, and they are targeted since they are at increased risk of HIV, and they often have legal and social issues related to their behaviours that increase their vulnerability to HIV.
  • Peer support mechanisms for better access to gender-based violence interventions including psychosocial and legal support because of high levels of partner violence reported by sex workers.
  • Support for training of health workers to address negative attitudes and stigma and discrimination.
  • Support the capacity development and human resource needs.

  • Percentage of sex workers reached with HIV prevention programs – defined packages of service
  • Percentage of sex workers that have received HIV testing and know their status
  • Percentage of sex workers using PrEP in priority sex workers’ PrEP population

OUTCOMES

  • Percentage of sex worker reporting the use of condom with their most recent client
  • Percentage of sex workers using PrEP and were not recently infected with HIV (zero-converted)
