One of ACHAPs core activities has been consistent capacity building support for government bodies and CSOs. For the government, this has been done through seconding staff, training and capacity building as well as leadership and technical advice through participation in technical working groups, development of key systems (including program and strategy design, program evaluations, M&E framework development, and report development).
ACHAP has successfully demonstrated its capacity to plan, implement and manage large scale public health interventions, but more importantly has supported significant improvements in health systems. For example;
Leadership support in the development of Botswana’s National Strategic Frameworks I and II;
Health Care Worker training on HIV diagnosis and treatment, safe male circumcision provision and TB diagnosis and treatment and;
Co-management of national and regional evaluations including the SMC Short term Communication Study, TB/HIV KAP study and the Assessment of Human Rights and Gender Barriers for TB in the Mines.
