The SMC Models of Optimizing Volumes and Efficiency (MOVE) sites launch was held on the 10th of March 2012 at Boswelakoko grounds in Molepolole. It was officiated by the Assistant Minister of Health Honourable Gaothaetse Matlhabaphiri, who was the guest speaker.The main objective of the event was to launch the two SMC MOVE sites, namely Boswelakoko clinic with a modified MOVE team and Scottish Livingston Hospital (SLH) with a full MOVE team and to encourage the community/men to utilise the enhanced SMC service delivery.

Parliamentary Briefing - Translating Policy into Implementation: sustaining the national response to HIV/AIDS
ACHAP hosted a Briefing Dinner for the Health & HIV/AIDS Parliamentary Committee and the Local Governance & Social Welfare Parliamentary Committee on Thursday 23 February 2012 at the GICC, with the theme "Translating Policy into Implementation: sustaining the national response to HIV/AIDS". The deliberations focused on Scaling up Safe Male Circumcision (SMC) and the integration of TB and HIV treatment and care from a Partnership perspective.
International TB HIV Workshop - Strengthening TB HIV Collaboration
ACHAP supported an International Workshop on Strengthening TB/HIV Collaboration, held from the 6th to the 10th February 2012, at Cresta Lodge. International facilitators from the International Union Against TB and lung diseases in France (one based in Harare, Zimbabwe and the other two in Paris, France) were among participants. Two Zambian delegates attended as observers (a medical doctor from a Government hospital and a nurse from private health services). The training was attended by Boteti, Moshupa, Ghanzi, Bobirwa,Tutume, Kweneng West and Ngami districts.
Launch of the Thought Leadership Forum - "HIV/AIDS Co-Investment for Prevention and Sustainability Planning"
The Thought Leadership Forum was launched on October 12th 2011 as a joint collaborative effort between the African Comprehensive HIV / AIDS Partnerships (ACHAP), Barclays Bank Botswana and Global Health Council (GBC) Health.
Palapye Sale Male Circumcision Soccer tournament
The Palapye Operational Area recently hosted a successful SMC pre-spring season soccer tournament on the 23rd July 2011. This activity marked the end of a series of knock out soccer tourneys which started on the 11th June 2011. The goal of these activities was to mobilize young men especially foot ballers for safe male circumcision. The objective was to have at least 500 young men circumcised through these soccer events. The 500 circumcisions were expected to include young men from the eight football clubs in Palapye.
Induction of Safe Male Circumcision nurses and doctors
On 22 August 2011, the Human Resources department inducted 19 safe male circumcision nurses and 3 SMC doctors. HR is committed to providing a quality Induction experience to both new hires and employees transferring from one department to the other, therefore the main aim of the event was to give the new staff members the opportunity to become acclimated to ACHAP, their colleagues and work expectations, and to meet and interact with the Managing Director, departmental heads and Sectional Managers in order to ensure a smooth transition into their new workplace.
Launch of the TB/HIV policy guidelines
The TB/HIV policy guidelines were launched in Selibe Phikwe on June 8th 2011 by the Honorable Assistant Minister of Health Mr Gaotlhaetse Mathabaphiri. The launch was aimed at ringing all relevant stakeholders, health, non health, Government and NGOs together and raising awareness on the policy that creates an enabling ground for provision of a more collaborative approach to the prevention and care of HIV-related TB. These policy guidelines will further provide the basis for enhanced coordination and collaboration of all programs, stakeholders and partners in the National TB/HIV Response.
US Ambassador Michelle Gavin Visits ACHAP Francistown Operational Area Office
On Friday August 19th, Her Excellency the US Ambassador to Botswana Michelle Gavin visited the ACHAP Francistown operational area office to learn about the work that ACHAP is doing in the districts in support of the national HIV/AIDS response. During her visit, she was accompanied by Ms. Catherine Dueholm, Political and Economic Counsellor-US Embassy. They were welcomed by the Senior Programme Officer for the Francistown Operations Area office, Mr. Christopher Batsalelwang who also gave a presentation on Francistown district interventions.
Elected Chairperson of Board of Directors
ACHAP is pleased to announce the election of Mrs. Joy Phumaphi as Chairperson of the ACHAP Board of Directors with effect from 20 May 2011. The election of Joy Phumaphi is in line with the Organisation’s decision to expand the composition of the ACHAP Board of Directors, to include local and regional expertise that will enable the organisation to remain a key partner in the national and regional HIV/AIDS response.
Handover of Male Circumcision Equipment
On Wednesday 13th July 2011, the African, Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Partnerships (ACHAP) handed over to Ministry of Health officials 28,000 disposable SMC kits, HIV/AIDS test kits for 50,000 clients, 10 diathermy machines and 40,000 re-usable forceps, amounting to BWP6,548,000.00 in support of the national Safe Male Circumcision (SMC) programme.
