Grants Management

Grants Management is one of ACHAP’s core capacities. ACHAP has managed sub-awards for over 200 projects to organizations of varying sizes ranging from small community based organizations to US based universities and research institutions.

A hybrid organization, ACHAP possesses US 501(c) (3) registration while ACHAP Botswana is registered as a limited liability company in accordance with Botswana’s legal statues. Both ACHAP bodies are audited annually, and have consistently received unqualified opinions. ACHAP has given sub-awards.

Currently as Private Sector Principle Recipient for the Global Fund’s HIV/TB Country Grant, ACHAP is responsible for sub-granting over $7.5 million.

While our TB in the Mines for Southern Africa (TIMS) project includes grants to 20 Civil Society Organizations across 10 Countries: Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.


In addition to sub-awarding, ACHAP has hosted two project offices Champions for and HIV/Free In addition to direct grant management and managing sub-awards, ACHAP has served as a fund manager for two projects:


  • Champions for an HIV Free Generation: a multi-funder project supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, World Bank, PEPFAR, and UNAIDS using high level leaders and former heads of state to advocate evidence based prevention activities to sitting Heads of state in Sub-Saharan Africa through several techniques including country visits.
  • Sesigo Libraries Project: A $4.75 million partnership between Botswana’s Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with a goal of bridging the digital divide by scaling up internet access through public libraries.
